American Rococo Revival Dining Chairs Attr. to Henkels. George J. Henkels,Comprising twelve side chairs and one armchair; laminated rosewood with carved balloon backs, salmon brocade upholstery; some variation in design, two with round legs, the others with cabriole legs. Circa 1850. {Approximate dimensions: 41 high x 20 wide x 24 inches deep.}. Condition: Minor surface wear throughout. Some repair to carving with some minor loss. Light wear to upholstery. George J. Henkels, Philadelphia, active between 1843 - 1870. An advertisement for his City Cabinet Warerooms 173 Chestnut St. illustrates a chair of similar design. A pair of chairs of similar design is in the collections of the Birmingham Museum of Art, 1989.188.1-.2.
