Albin Müller (1871-1941)

The German architect and designer Albin Müller first trained as a carpenter and then studied at the School of Applied Arts in Mainz. In 1900, he was appointed head of the Arts and Crafts School in Magdeburg. HIs roots lay in the Art Nouveau. However, later he found a more constructive design and a strict ornamentation. In 1906, he was appointed the leading architect of the Darmstadt artists' colony. Müller was internationally known above all for his furniture designs and casts. Since 1917, he used the pseudonym ‘Albinmüller’. After the First World War, he worked as a journalist, painter and architect of settlement houses. Since 1934, he devoted himself increasingly to landscape painting.

WMF (est. 1853)

WMF has been producing high-quality household metal ware since 1853. WMF was founded under the name Straub & Schweizer and won the first gold medal at the World Fair in London in 1862. The company merged with Ritter & Co. in 1880 and emerged as the ‘Württembergische Metallwaren Fabrik AG’ with headquarters in Geislingen. Since then, WMF has been producing worldwide known quality products of leading designs. (nlu)
