Description
Africa, Nigeria, Ogoni Tribe, ca. first quarter 20th century CE. A very rare mask with articulated mouth, curls to each side, hair tied atop in series of "spikes," face painted in rare yellow pigments with mouth, hair and facial features in black/ brown. The linear black decorations are typical features of white Ogoni masks which represent benevolent spirits and characters. Size: 11" H (27.9 cm)
Provenance: Ex- Nick Poolos collection, Adeon Gallery, Chicago, IL acquired before 1975
