Antonio Salvador Casanova y Estorach (1847-1896)
Antonio Salvador Casanova y Estorach was trained by Claudio Lorenzale and Federico de Madrazo. His work is attributed to the romantic orientation of Costumbristas. The Costumbristas featured the customs of the academic style, which in Europe was prevalent at that time, but also the innovations of impressionism are evident in his paintings. He painted mainly history and folkloric scenes in small format. He spent much of his life in Paris. Works by Casanova y Estorach can be found at the Prado, and the Museo Nacional de Arte de Cataluna, amongst others. (cko)
