Mexico, ca. 1875. Wonderfully executed paint on tin retablo in the form of La Madre de la Cruz. Our Lady of the Light or Holy Mother of the Light expresses a Catholic Marian devotion that comes from a revelation of Mary of Nazareth to a seer that would take place on November 21 of 1722 in Palermo. This scene has been painted in Latin America, Italy and Spain often in the years since. A very fine quality work! Size: 10" W x 13.5" H (25.4 cm x 34.3 cm)
