This is a one of a kind lot for collectors of Life Magazine and/or political memorabilia. Specifically, this lot includes the original copper Presidential Seal template used to create the cover of the July 5, 1968 Special Issue of Life Magazine, entitled "The Presidency." The copper seal measures approximately 12 1/2" by 15 3/8." The back of the plate is stamped Imperial Vitaplate. I have included a photo of the cover of the July 5, 1968 Life Magazine for your reference; however, I do not have a copy of the magazine for sale. As you can see, the copper seal, did indeed, serve as the template for the cover. This lot also includes a paper mock up/layout for a June 21, 1968 Special Issue of Life, entitled "The Presidency" which apparently was not used. Rather on June 21, 1968 Life Magazine, ran a headline of "The Two Accused" and showed photos of Earl Ray and Sirhan Sirhan, who had been accused of assassinating Robert Kennedy two weeks earlier on June 6, 1968. The unused paper cover layout depicts a presidential seal at the center with glued on images of the signatures of the 35 presidents to that point (please note, 2 signatures apparently came unglue and are missing). Indeed, all aspects of the proposed cover are glued onto the photo paper (it has an irridescent sheen). In addition to the missing 2 signatures, the paper is curled at the edges, and some of the other signatures are lifting a bit, as time has done a number on the glue used.
