Description
Pre-Columbian, north coast of Peru, Moche culture, ca. 200 to 400 CE. This is a hollow pottery figural vessel in the form of a male wearing an elaborate headdress, ear ornaments, and a poncho, painted with cream and red slip. The wide neck of the vessel suggests that it may have been a kind of canteen. Size: 4.2" L x 4.1" W x 6.15" H (10.7 cm x 10.4 cm x 15.6 cm)
Provenance: Ex-Don May collection, Who's Who's in India Artifacts Fame, acq. 1970s.
