Description
Pre-Columbian, northern Peru, Moche III/IV, ca. 500 to 600 CE. A wonderful and touching stirrup jar in the form of a mother sea bird (comorant) with its beak down toward the baby bird at its side while another baby bird nestles up on its other side. Once covered with a deep kaolin slip, mush of which still remains. Size: 8" W x 7.75" H (20.3 cm x 19.7 cm)
