Description
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. This is a classic Nayarit figure of the style sometimes called "Chinesca" in early Western studies. She stands on her exaggeratedly wide legs, with her hands on her hips, wearing white clothing including a loin cloth. She also has a red necklace, blocky earrings, a nose ring, and facial markings that may be tattooing. She is made from thick, heavy terracotta with a wide, heart-shaped face and large nose. She has been painted cream and red, and the colors remain very clear. Size: 4" W x 7.3" H (10.2 cm x 18.5 cm)
