Description
**First Time At Auction**
Ancient Greece, Hellenistic Period, ca. 3rd to 1st century BCE. A mold-formed pottery figure of a standing woman wearing a lengthy himation with her head shrouded by a veil. The woman, perhaps a funerary mourner, stands with a solemn gaze while holding a flower in her left hand. Her textured shirt, beaded necklace, and segmented diadem suggest she was someone of wealth and status. Size: 3.75" W x 11.9" H (9.5 cm x 30.2 cm); 13.25" H (33.7 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: ex-private Davis collection, Houston, Texas, USA; ex-Bonhams, London, Knightsbridge Antiquities Auction (May 8, 2013, part of lot 154); ex-Joseph Klein collection, New York, USA, formed between 1941 and 1980, thence by descent

Condition
Head reattached to body at neck, and restoration to ankles, feet, and base, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Abrasions and nicks to body, arms, and head, with softening to some finer details, fading to original pigment, and encrustations within recessed areas. Nice earthen deposits throughout.
