Description
Ancient Rome, ca. 2nd to 4th century CE. A stunning blue-green glass jar that boasts a near spherical body, relatively unusual form, and is decorated with elegant trailing arranged in a pointed wave pattern. Its funnel neck develops into a flared lip with a folded rim. Furthermore, areas of rainbow and purple iridescence grace the surface. Absolutely breathtaking! A similar example (with handles) is in Nina Kunina. "Ancient Glass in the Hermitage Collection." St. Petersburg, 1997, no. 427, p. 333. Size: 2.875" W x 3.125" H (7.3 cm x 7.9 cm)
