Description
Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Paracas, ca. 700 to 500 BCE. An impressive handbuilt pottery face vessel boasting a low flaring form with walls finely incised with stylized geometric bands and a marvelous raised section depicting a voluminous face mask with modeled, protruding round pierced eyes, an aquiline nose, and pursed lips - the visage framed by incised banding across the forehead and down each side with a fabulous step motif incised upon the cheeks and framing the puckered mouth. A wonderful burnished brownware example from this ancient Peruvian culture with stunning firing clouds that add to its aesthetic. Size: 9" L x 8.25" W x 3.5" H (22.9 cm x 21 cm x 8.9 cm)
