Item Details
Description
Germany, most likely from the Annaberg area, ca. 17th century CE. This piece was produced in the mining region of the Saxon Erz Mountains. It is a rare large bowl in the form of a beaver, covered with dark brown vitrifying glaze which produced a lovely streaked pattern with areas of lighter and darker browns. Legs, head, and tail emerge from the side of the bowl with added incised lines to represent the animals fur. Quite a spectacular vessel! Size: 14" L x 6" H (35.6 cm x 15.2 cm).

Provenance: Ex-Paul and Louise Bernheimer collection, Cambridge, MA and Laguna Woods, CA., acquired before 1980.
