Description
Built in the 1/2/3 format circa 1880s, this lancewood rod is complete in all respects. Plated brass slide band reel seat with rattan wrapped silk spiraled with red silk. Above the nickel silver winding check is an acetate label marked "Joseph Boivin/Maker/Quebec, Canada" in 3 lines, the maker's name underscored. Ferrules are brass plated, drawn and welted. hanging ring guides with double coiled top guides, wrapped in red silk, the tips having full intermediates as well as 2 inch long wraps repeating at 5 inch intervals. Truly impeccable condition, and a fine example for the serious collector of 19th century fly rods. Unique form fitting hardwood case, which is rectangular and slotted for three sections on the opposing long sides. Pictured by Kerr (p 142). Original canvas bag. From the Thomas C.
