Description
Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chancay, ca. 1000 to 1470 CE. A lovely pair of handbuilt ceramic works created by the Chancay, first an ovoid bottle with a compressed rim and twin arched handles, hand painted with a stylized, crossed linear or "X" pattern on the body, that same "X" pattern on two rectangular panels adorning the neck, each quadrant with an eye or egg-like motif. Next, we have a small round bowl skillfully painted with chocolate brown and creamy white slip, the convex walls with a stylized linear pattern, the interior with a large "X". Size: larger bottle measures 4" W x 4.75" H (10.2 cm x 12.1 cm); bowl measures 3.5" in diameter x 2"H (9 x 5.1 cm)
