Description
Magna-Graecia, Southern Italy, Apulia, ca. 400 to 350 BCE. Molded terracotta portrait juglet having a tapered spout and applied strap handle. Depicting the portrait of a young woman with a beautifully coiffed hairdo and double braids crossed at the back of her head. Black glazed neck and handle, some remaining white surface pigment, mostly on her hairdo. A gorgeous vessel! Size: 7" H (17.8 cm)
Provenance: Ex-private collection of Leslie Margulis, Australia & New York, acquired Sotheby's, Dec. 1994, lot 295. Exhibited: Phoenix Art Museum, The Cutler Collection of Ancient Greek Ceramics 1984-5.
