Description
Magna Graecia, South Italic Colonies, Apulia, ca. 340 to 325 BCE. An uncomplicated example of a wheel-thrown pottery lekythos with an annular foot, a piriform body, a gently corseted neck surmounted by a flared, in-folded rim, and a strap handle arching off the shoulder. The body is decorated with a dense crosshatched net motif with solid bands of pigment both above and below, and vertical frets line the circumference of the lower neck. Size: 1.875" W x 5.4" H (4.8 cm x 13.7 cm)

Condition
Repairs and restoration to area of rim and upper neck as well as small areas of foot, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Abrasions to body, foot, and rim, with fading to scattered areas of original pigment, and one stable pressure fissure along lower body. Great preservation of net motif.
