Item Details
Description
Latin America, Mexico, Spanish Colonial, ca. 1800 CE. This beautiful sterling silver aureola or radiance ("resplandor" in Spanish) was created to be mounted on the head of a figure of a saint to represent the saint's holy emanations. Whether affixed to a saint, mounted on a display base, or standing alone, it captivates as a poetic object and conversation piece. Embellished with traditional curvilinear/foliate Spanish Colonial designs using the repoussé technique, it is quite striking. Size and Weight: 5-1/2" at widest x 5-1/8" (14 x 13 cm); 41.4 grams.
