Description
South America, 20th century CE. This beautiful sterling silver aureola or radiance ("resplandor" in Spanish) was created to be mounted on the head of a saint to represent its holy emanations. Whether affixed to a saint, mounted on a display base, or standing alone, it captivates as a poetic object and conversation piece. Based on an 18th century design and handsomely crafted by Aymara speaking silversmiths using the same chaise and repousse techniques practiced a thousand years ago by their Huari, Tiwanakan, and Incan ancestors. Size: 1.35 ounces; 5-1/4"L x 3-1/4"H.
