**First Time At Auction**
North America, Mexico, Spanish Colonial inspired, ca. 19th century CE. A stunning nickel-brass incensario (hanging thurible incense burner) embellished with a silver wash. This vessel was intended for a religious context, created in two parts and suspended from four long chains that attach to a confirming rim. The rim has two suspension loops in the center and three hooks on the edge for adjusting the chain length. The censor is embossed and etched with motifs and rests on a pedestal foot, and the upper cupola-shaped body features abstract decoration comprised of circular and linear motifs. The censor opens at the center and the top section contains additional decorations of floral shapes and perforations for ventilation. Incense burning is used in worship services and mass for Catholic and other Christian faiths. A lovely example! Size of censor body: 4.5" W x 10.25" H (11.4 cm x 26 cm); quality of silver: 1.7%
Provenance: private Los Angeles County, California, USA collection, acquired by descent from the owner's father, collection amassed between 1950-1990

Condition
One chain is missing link and disconnected from rest of chain. Chains easily come off the rings to adjust hanging length. Small perforations to vessel body and lid. Indentations and bending of forms. Nice areas of patina.
