Latin America, Mexico, ca. 1915 CE. A lightweight silver sword meant for embellishing large Mexican Santo figures. It has a thin handle and a semicircular hand guard which is perforated on top and bottom, and also has three oval-shaped lobes with incised dot-shaped peripheral details and an upturned thumb rest. A lengthy blade with a crescent profile has two thin lines incised on either side. One side of the blade displays a line of text stating it was created in 1915, though the name at the beginning is difficult to decipher. The tip of the blade has been dulled over time, though the elegance of this model sword is evident even today! Size: 19.875" L (50.5 cm).
Provenance: private Omer Claiborne collection, Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA; acquired over the last 40 years

Condition
Age-commensurate surface wear, slight bending to overall form, tarnishing to most surfaces, small nicks to blade, small loss and dulling to tip, with minor adhesive residue visible where blade meets guard.
