Description
Greek, Ionia (Anatolia), ca. 6th century BCE. This is a wide, shallow, thinly thrown drinking cup, known as a kylix, on a small disc foot with twin loop handles as either side. It is made of a buff clay decorated with bands in brown slip. A cup like this would most likely have been used for drinking wine; the different styles of kylix provide archaeologists with a timeline and geographical knowledge about ancient Greek culture. Size: 8-1/4" W x 3" H (21 cm x 7.6 cm).
