Description
Ancient Near East, Iran and Turkey, Tepe Sialk (also Tepe Siaulk), ca. 4000 to 3600 BCE. An elegant pottery drinking cup featuring linear decoration incised and hand-painted in burnt orange on a peach-colored ground. Sitting upon a narrow, discoid foot, the ancient vessel swells to a broad, annular rim. The top third of the cup features painted horizontal bands of varying thickness and a pair of undulating, incised striations. A graceful example of ancient Near East aesthetic, sure to appeal to modern minimalist sensibilities! Size: 3.3" Diameter x 5.9" H (8.4 cm x 15 cm)

Provenance: ex-Nancy and Dr. E.F. Simpson collection, Los Angeles, California, USA, acquired from 1970 to 2000
