Description
This lantern has a nice Steam Gauge Lamp & Lantern stamped hallmark under the vent holes on the top. The lid is clearly stamped C&MRR in round lettering that is Steam Gauge " Syracuse all the way. It's a 5 3/8" size frame. It has a twist off bell. The brass top has a few dings but no damage. The C&M existed during an interesting transition when glass founts were being replaced with tin. The C&M existed from just 1889-1895. This was a successor to the Boston Concord & Montreal and the Concord Railroads. Some of these roads used 5 3/8" frames and some used 6" frames. The Concord had many more 5 3/8" frames so this design made sense for re-using their spare globes.
The globe is a great example of the casting on an extended base within a rectangular panel. The turned up tails on the "R"s is really really nice. There is one tiny spot of rot on the bell and the rest of the lantern seems very solid.
