Description
Oceania, South Pacific, PNG or Borneo, ca. 19th century CE. Carved from real coconuts! Each part presenting a plethora of detail, hustle and bustle, multiple simultaneous occurrences, and complex panoply of personages! Lid features a quadrant of four faces, each with hands to ears. Body shows village scene with multiple entertainers in various stances (musician, jugglers), while base also reflects a similar musical them. Inscription on base, probably that of the artist, now illegible. Size: 9"H (22,9cm) to tip of lid knob.
