**First Time At Auction**

South East Asia, Indonesia, Java, Majapahit Dynasty, ca. 15th century CE. A lovely mold-formed terracotta sculpture of a hollow male head. Framed by combed back straight hair with a slight widow's peak, the round visage presents with full pursed lips, an upturned nose, a narrow nasal bridge, an arched brow, and two bulbous eyes shut closed, perhaps in meditation. Extended earlobes hang from both his ears, flanking his tranquil countenance, indicating that he is either a Buddhist or a Buddha, as long-lobed ears are a prominent characteristic of Siddhartha from when he cast off earthly possessions to live an ascetic life, leaving his previously heavily jewel-adorned ears to hang bare. Size: 3.5" in diameter x 4.25" H (8.9 cm x 10.8 cm); 8" H (20.3 cm) on included custom stand.
