Description
Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Moche, ca. 100 BCE to 100 CE. Anthropomorphic ceramic vessel depicting a vendor wearing a pronounced headdress, earspools, and tunic - proudly carrying a sack full of wares on his back and holding an item in each hand, one that appears to be a stirrup vessel, the other perhaps a musical instrument, all hand painted in an attractive red and white bichrome finish. The artisan of this piece delineated the vendedor's facial features in a naturalistic manner, similar to that of Moche portrait vessels, leaving us with a wonderfully lifelike presence! Size: 6-3/8"H x 4"W.
