Description
Southeast Asia, Thailand, Ban Chiang, 1st millennium BCE. A large pottery vessel of an elegant form with a splayed foot and sinuous profile as well as intricate red on cream painted decoration comprised of (from top to bottom) a meandering spiral punctuated by foliate-like forms surrounding the neck, five concentric circular motifs each housing a feather-like form in the center on the body, an intertwining ribbon-like (akin to a continuous infinity symbol) just above the splayed foot which is adorned with a linear pattern. Size: ~9"H x 8-1/4" at widest.
Provenance: Ex-private southern California collection, acquired before 2000.
