Description
A Roman North African terra sigillata plate fragment, c. 4th-5th Century AD, depicting a running boar, probably from a scene of an execution in the circus (damnatio ad bestias). H: 2 1/3 in (5.9cm), W: 2 ¼ in (4.7cm). Ex Royal Athena Galleries, New York City; Ex collection of Clemens Holzmeister (1887-1983), acquired between 1927 and 1954; Ex Hamburg private collection, acquired in the 1980's.
