East Asia, China, & Southeast Asia, ca. 17th to 19th century CE. A large stoneware tapayan jar, glazed with linear striations impressed in the upper shoulder and a circular stamp. The surface is glazed in a yellow-brown glaze. Tapayan jars have been used and imported / exported throughout southeastern Asia, and most were used for the transport, storage, and fermentation of liquids, and in some regions such as the Philippines, they were used as burial urns.
