Southeast Asia, Thailand, Sawankhalok, ca. 14th to 15th century CE. A lovely set of hand-built pottery vessels - a bowl and a jar - from ancient Thailand that are covered in dark yellow-green glaze. The jar features a squat foot, an apple-shaped body, and a quartet of lug handles that surrounds the thick, flared rim. The larger vessel is a bowl with a planar base, a broad, apple-shaped body, and 4 lug handles set equidistantly around the shoulder beneath a flared rim that perhaps accommodated a lid at one time. Size (bowl): 6.125" W x 3.3" H (15.6 cm x 8.4 cm); (jar): 3.7" W x 3.75" H (9.4 cm x 9.5 cm)
Provenance: private Lumberton, Texas, USA collection, acquired before 2010

Condition
Both vessels have abrasions and light encrustations commensurate with age, with fading and chipping to glaze pigment, otherwise intact and very good. Nice earthen deposits and remains of glaze. Both vessels have old inventory labels from the National Philippines Museum on them.
