Description
Southeast Asia, Cambodia or northern Thailand, Khmer Empire, ca. 12th to 14th century CE. A large, rare, and fabulous glazed pottery brazier in a deep gray finish. The tall base is decorated with incised "X" and "O" patterns, the main body with series of 4-sided star cutouts, and the sloping shoulder with sinuous "S" patterns in 4 incised lines beneath a short straight rim. The vessel was designed to hold hot coals so it could cook foods or heat liquids. Size: 13.5" W x 14" H (34.3 cm x 35.6 cm)
