Ronald Reagan Signed Note About Baseball: "…I've got a stack of stories myself…"
An autograph note signed with initials "RR" as President, penned at the bottom of a typed letter signed on White House letterhead by Reagan's chief speechwriter Ken Khachigian, one page, 8.5" x 11", Washington, D.C., March 20, 1981. In fine condition.

Kachigian advises Reagan "…on Friday, March 27 you will be having lunch with members of the Baseball Hall of Fame. We will be more than happy to assist with remarks for this, but we are intimidated by your superior knowledge of baseball – and especially by the rich experience you had as a sports broadcaster!". Reagan pens his reply at the bottom: "Ken just give me whatever you have on hand. I understand this is just a ‘shorty' & I've got a stack of stories myself…".

In the 1930s and well in advance of his film career, Reagan worked as a sportscaster for WHO Radio in Des Moines, Iowa. Rather than follow the game in person base his commentary on that, Reagan "…action from nothing but a slip of paper typed by a telegraph operator who was transcribing plays sent by Morse code…" (The Reagan Library). This facility for improvisation would help Reagan in his acting years and perhaps even more so when, as President, he improvised many of his most famous and important speeches…working only from cards written in his own code!
