Native American, Southwestern United States, Arizona, Anasazi (Ancestral Puebloan), ca. 950 to 1200 CE. Formed via the traditional Puebloan coil-and-scrape technique, a lovely example of a hemispherical, pottery bowl adorned with hand-painted black-on-white decoration of interlocked stepped motifs and triangular checkered shapes radiating from the interior center. Scholars believe that many of these motifs were inspired by weather and landscape phenomena in the high desert areas in which the Puebloan-Chaco tribes resided.
