Native American, Southwestern United States, Four Corners region, Chaco Canyon, Ancestral Puebloan (Anasazi), Pueblo I or Pueblo II period, ca. 900 to 1030 CE. A sizable pottery bowl constructed via the Puebloan coil-and-scrape technique with a round but stable base, a thin rim, and tall walls. The white-ground basin surfaces are densely decorated with spiraling bands that coalesce into elaborate openwork diamond patterns; the circular center panel is undecorated. Scholars believe that many of these motifs were inspired by weather and landscape phenomena in the high desert areas in which the Puebloan-Chaco tribes resided.
