Le centre de table ovale sur quatre pieds en feuille d’acanthe, le bord à décor rocaille sous une galerie ajourée de canaux et appliquée de festons fleuris, le centre détachable formé d’une famille de cerfs courant sur une base rocheuse, poinçon, estampille et numéro d’atelier 697276 sous le bord, les pieds numérotés A et B ;
Les candélabres sur base ovale ajourée à l’identique du centre de table et reposant sur deux pieds feuillagés, les fûts en double enroulements centrés sur le bas par une bécasse dans des roseaux et sur le haut une grappe de baies, la branche centrale et les six branches en enroulements feuillages terminés par un binet balustre reposant sur un bobèche formée de feuilles, poinçon et estampille sur les bords et numéro d’atelier 256979 et 256980, sept bobèches estampillées S, trois ST et quatre SS
Les bases appliquées de chaque côté d’un cartouche rocaille gravé d’armoiries sous une couronne comtale et sur devise TOT OU TARD

A FRENCH SILVER-PLATED THREE PIECE GARNITURE COMPRISING A CENTREPIECE AND A PAIR OF SEVEN-LIGHT CANDELABRA, MARK OF CHRISTOFLE, PARIS, THE TABLE CENTRE 1869-1870, THE CANDELABRA 1855-1865
The central element shaped oval on four acanthus feet, the apron pierced with fluting and applied with foliate festoons, the detachable centre cast and chased with a family of stags standing on rockery, marked and stamped on base and with workshop number 697276, the feet marked A et B ;
The pair of candelabra on conforming openwork base resting on two foliate feet, the stems formed of two foliate scrolls joined at the top by a bunch of berries, and framing a woodcock surrounded by bulrushes, the six foliate scrolling branches with central light terminating with foliate sockets resting on drip-pans cast with leaves, marked and stamped on rims, with workshop numbers 256979 and 256980, seven nozzles stamped 'S', three 'ST' and four 'SS'
Applied on the base on both sides with a rococo cartouche engraved with a coat-of-arms below an earl coronet and with motto TOT OU TARD beneath
This model, with small difference, was exhibited for the first time at the 1851 International Exhibition in London, then presented in this version in the 1855 catalogue and presented at the 1862 International Exhibition in London.
The animal composition was somehow inspired by the Duke of Bourbon's table centrepiece by Jacques Roettiers (active 1733-1773), himself influenced by the models of Jean-Baptiste Oudry (1686-1755). This style of grand garniture is part of the historicist silver in the Louis XV style which made Christofle international reputation.

Ce modèle avec quelques variantes est exposé pour la première fois à l’Exposition Internationale de 1851 à Londres puis repris dans la version présentée ici dans le catalogue de 1855 et présenté à l’Exposition Internationale de 1862 à Londres. Cette composition animalière s’inspire du surtout de table du Duc de Bourbon par Jacques Roettiers (actif 1733-1773) lui-même influencé par les modèles de Jean-Baptiste Oudry (1686-1755). Cette garniture toute en courbes s’inscrit dans l’argenterie historiciste de style Louis XV qui fera la renommée de la maison Christofle.
