Description
THE ARMINIAN MAGAZINE, FOR MARCH 1790. [London: For the Authors, 1790.] Frontispiece, 113-168 pp.; without ads or original wrappers. Disbound. **************** Notably, this issue contains an "Account of an Extraordinary Negro-Slave" in Maryland, written by Dr. Rush of Philadelphia, about a slave named Thomas Fuller, the "property of a Mrs. Coxe" (page 156.) Thomas Fuller was an African who was shipped as a slave to America in 1724. His abilities in doing calculations were quite remarkable. Later in his life, he was used by anti-slavery groups to demonstrate that African-Americans were not mentally inferior to whites. Rare. RBH records only one other auction appearance for this issue, being a copy which sold in our saleroom March 13, 2021 ($2,125.)
