A French small sword, circa 1730Hollow-ground thrusting blade of triangular section, the forte lightly etched with a floral design and ornaments. Finely chiselled knuckle-bow hilt with asymmetrical shell guards, the hilt profusely decorated with figures of Greek mythology, chiselled iron, on stippled gold base. Original gilt-wire-bound grip with Turk's heads, nearly globular, en suite chiselled gilt pommel with tang button. Black leather scabbard with chiselled gilt mounts (unassociated?). The gold-plating of the grip wire somewhat rubbed, the scabbard repaired at the chape. Length 93 cm. An elegant weapon with exquisite iron chiselling.Condition: II
