Description
A fine German or Flemish six-piece set of chiselled iron small-sword mountings, circa 1680/90Chiselled iron with original burnished surfaces. The guard plate heavily curved with fine chiselled décor on both sides. Depicting tableaux of chivalry and camp scenes in the style of David Tenier, surrounded by ornamental borders. The quillons featuring tableaux of chivalry on both sides, both arms of the quillons fully sculptured in the figure of a boy. Oblique oval pommel, tableaux of chivalry on the front, the side panels chiselled with flute players in half relief. All three parts of the scabbard set featuring tableaux of chivalry. Dimensions of the guard plate 9 x 9 cm, width of the quillons 10.7 cm. In a lined storage box, circa 1900, measuring 5 x 25 x 17 cm.Provenance: Formerly in the Sauboua collection, France.
