A Rhenish sandstone sculpture of St. Cornelius, 15th/16th centuryDreiviertelplastisch gearbeitete Figur des stehenden Heiligen aus rotem Sandstein mit alter Farbfassung. Darstellung mit Mitra und weitem Mantel, in den Händen seine Attribute Buch und Horn haltend. Auf oktagonaler Plinthe stehend. Stellenweise leicht bestoßen. Maße 96 x 28 x 17 cm.Der Hl. Cornelius war Mitte des 3. Jhdts. Papst in Rom und musste während der Christenverfolgung unter Kaiser Gallus in Verbannung gehen, wo er 253 als Märtyrer starb. Er gilt als Schutzheiliger des Hornviehs und soll gegen die "Cornelkrankheit" (Epilepsie) helfen. Sein Gedenktag ist der 16. September.Condition: II -
