Description
Pair of Carved Wooden Stirrups (Estribos), South America, late 19th century. Hollowed hardwood blocks with carved intaglio floral and geometric decoration, both retaining wrought iron brace inlaid with contrasting patterned bands on exterior sides, joined at the top with riveted axles hinged to fifteen-inch-long leather straps, and iron treads wrapped beneath opening and secured to walls with double rivets, one impressed with mark resembling 'J' on the bottom, excluding leather straps, 12cm wide, 17cm deep, 17cm high (5 7/8in wide, 7in deep, 7 1/4in high).
