Description
Dyottville Glass Works West Point Class of 1846 commemorative bottles. Yellow-olive green. Applied seal at shoulder embossed with "Class of 1846" and "W" within a shield. Applied tapered double collar mouth. Base embossed " Dyottville Glass Works Philadelphia".Height 11.25". Two with chip on applied Class. Visible in photos. One with chip on neck. Visible in photos. limited number of bottles made for a graduation party honoring the U.S. Military Academy West Point Class of 1846, a legendary group of cadets who would go on to serve in three wars and produce 20 generals, notably "Stonewall" Jackson, Ambrose Hill and George Edward Pickett. The bottles were possibly commissioned by the wealthy McClellan family of Philadelphia for the party they were hosting for George B. McClellan, who graduated second in the class. McClellan would serve as commander of the Army of the Potomac in the early years of the Civil War.
