Blackshear Morrison Bryan (1900-1977) was originally attending Virginia Military Academy but received an appointment to the United States Military Academy. Due to the United States' entrance into World War I, the United States Military Academy graduated two classes in 1922. Bryan graduated in three years after an accelerated course and was commissioned a second lieutenant of artillery. He graduated from the Command and General Staff School in 1936 and by 1940 he was promoted to major and graduated from the United States Army War College. During World War II, he was chief of the Policy Section for the War Department General Staff in Washington, D.C. where he was promoted to lieutenant colonel, and again to colonel (1942)( when he was assigned as Chief of the Aliens Division for the Provost Marshal General's Office. He was promoted again to general in 1943, given command of the Prisoner of War Division, including oversight of the Japanese Internment camps.

After WWII, he served as chief of staff under General Matthew Ridgway in the Caribbean Command. He was given his first combat command when he took charge of the 24th Infantry Division at the start of the Korean War. After a year, he transferred to the Far East Command in Tokyo, then took command of the XVI Corps in Japan, before leading efforts to conclude hostilities at the United Nations. He was appointed the 43rd superintendent of the United States Military Academy, serving from 1954 to 1956, before taking command of the United States Army, Pacific in 1956 before his final command at Fort Jay, Governors Island, New York City.

An important milestone document for General Blackshear Bryan, notably enhanced by the signature of General Douglas MacArthur during his tenure as Superintendent of the United States Military Academy. An excellent West Point document.
