Amos Beebe Eaton (1806-1877) was born in Catskill, N.Y., graduated from West Point in 1826, served in the Seminole Wars, the Mexican War under General Taylor, served twelve years as a field officr and then joined the Army Commissary Department and during the Civil War he did such a fine job supplying the Union forces that President Lincoln appointed him Brigadier General on July 6, 1864 and was beveted Major General in 1866.
