Description
The American Aces Speak. The American Aces Speak was a series of books by military historian Eric Hammel that brought fresh first-person accounts from fighter aces who blasted their way across the skies of North Africa, the Mediterranean, and northern and southern Europe in the great crusade against Hitler's vaunted Luftwaffe and the other Axis air forces. The book, Aces Against Germany, Volume II, Presidio, 1993, signed on a special bookplate, affixed to the first end-paper, by Jerry Collinsworth (1919-2010), Jack Ilfrey (1920-2004) and Herschel “Herky” Green (1920-2006). In 125 combat sorties, Collinsworth shot down six Axis aircraft along with one probable and one damaged. Ilfrey was credited with shooting down seven and a half enemy aircraft during World War II and evading capture twice. Green was the leading ace of the Fifteenth Air Force, shooting down 18 enemy aircraft and destroying 10 more on the ground. The dust jacket has been protected and the book is unblemished.
