Black History
Rare Type c. 1750 Colonial Hand-Forged Slave Shackle Set
c. 1750 18th Century Colonial Era, Hand-Forged Set of Iron Slave Shackles, Very Fine.
This original Hand-forged Set of Slave Trade Shackles, is a rare type used in the 18th Century from about 1750 in the Colonial through Revolutionary War Era. The hand-forged links of chain measure about 30” long in total length. One end has a 4.5” x 4” loop for attaching to the person’s neck and the other end has a 2.5” loop to attach to a wall or some other secure item. There is also a cross link with two 2.5” loops about 20” from the large loop end all having a natural even patina. An awsome and horrible piece of American Slave Trade and Black history, directly related to that turbulent time of our history.
