George Washington Free Franked Address Leaf, One of the Boldest We've Seen!

An address sheet free franked by George Washington. 1p, measuring 10" x 8.5" [5.75" x 3.5" folded], Alexandria, postmark dated October 21, [1799]. Franked "Free Go: Washington" at the lower left corner. Addressed to Captain Abraham Shepherd in Shepherdstown, Berkley County, Virginia. The address sheet has been backed with lined onion paper. With flattened folds. Tears, chipping, and paper loss at the edges and where the seal was broken. Toned throughout with scattered soiling and foxing. With a bold, attractive signature - one of the boldest signatures we've ever encountered by the first President.
Captain Abraham Shepherd (1754-1822) was a Patriot in the Revolutionary War, along with his four older brothers. They are believed to be the sole incidence of five brothers having all fought during the Revolution.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
