Signed First Day Cover
A First Day Cover "Commemorating / 150th Anniversary / Missouri / Statehood" signed by former 33rd U.S. President Harry S. Truman (1884-1972) as "Harry S. Truman" near center-right. Postmarked in Independence, Missouri on May 8, 1971. Encapsulated and PSA/DNA graded NM 7. Bearing a canceled stamp officially issued that day: a multicolored U.S. 8-cent stamp based on a Thomas Hart Benton mural depicting pioneers. The same image is incorporated into the Truman cachet at left. Near fine. The actual size of the envelope is 6.5" x 3.625" while the overall size of the slab is 9.5" x 4.625."
Harry S. Truman died 19 months after signing this First Day Cover celebrating Missouri statehood (on August 10, 1821), in December 1972.
