Harry Truman Signed Photo From Kennedy's Party Acceptance Speech

A black and white photograph, measuring 6.5" x 8.5", [New York], dated September 14, 1960. An image of Truman at a formal dinner, seated while shaking hands with an unidentified man. Signed and inscribed at the lower margin, "May David Leiberman have a lucky life/Harry Truman/9-14-60." Given the date, we can infer that Truman was attending an event held at the Commodore Hotel, where John F. Kennedy gave an address upon accepting the Liberal Party Nomination for President. Stamped on verso by the New York City photographer, Peter Haas. The photograph is slightly rolled, with minor creasing at the corners. Faint wear and scratching throughout. Very displayable and boldly signed. Very fine.

Harry Truman had initially supported Senator Stuart Symington of Missouri for the 1960 Democratic presidential nomination, believing Kennedy to be too young and inexperienced. In answer to these comments, Kennedy pointed out that he had already served more time in Congress than Truman had before becoming president. Truman eventually gave his lukewarm support to Kennedy, and would later campaign on his behalf once Kennedy received the Democratic nomination. Truman and his wife would later be invited to the White House in March 1961, their first return since leaving in January 1953.
