Life around Nome is all the more difficult in the face of real poverty and isolation added to the bitterness of the Arctic cold itself.” Adams was a prize-winning photojournalist for decades; he is perhaps most famous for his Pulitzer-Prize winning photo of the execution of Viet Cong prisoner Nguyen Van Lem during the Vietnam war, becoming one of the most influential photos taken of the Vietnam war.
